According to a recent article appearing on the New York Daily News website, two Manhattan men were killed in a private plane crash near Aspen, Colorado, on Sunday, July 4, 2021.
According to a spokesperson with the Pitkin County Sheriff’s Office, the tragic plane crashed at approximately 5:30 p.m. when the Beechcraft Bonanza went down just 9 miles outside of Aspen, Colorado.
The two men had departed Aspen and were heading east to Des Moines, Iowa, and when there had been no contact from either man for about a day, a friend called Colorado aviation authorities. A search party was sent out to locate the two men.
Surviving family Members told NY News staff reporters that one of the men piloting the aircraft was an oral surgeon from the Upper West Side. He had a well-established Park Avenue practice and was committed to using his skills as an oral surgeon to help children and those in need worldwide.
The second man, a founder of several private aircraft charters, was a skilled pilot and was said to be a stickler for the rules. “He did everything by the book,” a friend said.

It is uncertain what caused the plane to go down so soon after takeoff. Local authorities, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) are expected to conduct a thorough investigation to determine the cause of the crash.
A final report is expected to be released in the coming months.
