Explica reported on a Thanksgiving night accident on Long Island in New York that caused two deaths and several injuries on a local freeway.
According to officials with the Nassau County Police Department, the incident occurred around 8:30 p.m. along the Southern State Parkway on Long Island, near Exit 21 in Hempstead. A young driver 19 years of age was driving a 2004 Honda Pilot SUV westbound on the Southern State Parkway when his vehicle collided with a 2020 Toyota Corolla sedan. The impact caused the driver to lose control of the Pilot, and the SUV jumped a railing and collided with an overpass support.
Two of the passengers in the Honda Pilot were killed in the impact and pronounced dead at the scene of the accident, both 23 years of age. Four others involved in the accident were medically transported by ambulance to Nassau University Hospital in East Meadow, two of them in serious condition.

The driver was reportedly injured but in stable condition, while the occupants of the 2020 Toyota Corolla were apparently unharmed. According to police officials, the accident is still under investigation, and eyewitnesses or others with any relevant information are asked to contact authorities.
