Three people have been injured at a restaurant after a vehicle crashed into the dining space that was located outside, extending into the roadway.
Brinkwire reports that a pick-up truck crashed into the outdoor dining area of L’Wren in Sunset Park on Tuesday evening. If it weren’t for a large barrier in the way of the truck, the damage would have been much greater.
Video footage of the incident shows tables and chairs flying when the truck plowed through the street dining area. Three restaurant guests were knocked to the ground in the crash and were sent to Lutheran hospital for treatment. Other surrounding guests were shaken by the incident.
The crash was treated like an accident. The driver remained uninjured and was sober. As protocol would normally dictate, the driver of the pickup truck pulled over and stayed at the scene. Witnesses say that the barriers erected by the restaurant saved their lives.
One of the tactics that NYC has done to save jobs and boost the economy is to extend outdoor dining areas onto sidewalks and even into the street. This change has come as several areas of the country, like New York, have placed restrictions upon restaurants to increase sanitation.
Indoor dining is prohibited in New York right now, which is why outdoor dining has become popular. However, it was only a matter of time before an accident like this happened. If you are driving on NYC roads, please watch out for changes in the roadway from these outdoor dining areas.
