According to officials from the Riverhead Town Police Department, the incident took place between 8:00 p.m. and 8:15 p.m. Eastern Standard Time (EST) on the morning of Saturday, February 6 along Sound Avenue just east of Dolphin Way in the town of Riverhead, NY. A woman, who has been identified but did not have her age or city provided to the press, was driving west on Sound Avenue in a 2008 Honda vehicle when, for unknown reasons still under investigation, she crossed the centerline of the roadway and entered the oncoming traffic lane, where she collided with a 2014 Dodge utility truck.
The victim was ejected from her vehicle in the accident, and she was treated at the scene by a crew from the Riverhead Volunteer Ambulance Corps and then transported to Stony Brook University Hospital by a Suffolk County Police Department helicopter.
The driver of the truck was transported to Peconic Bay Medical Center by the Riverhead Volunteer Ambulance Corps for injuries not believed to be life-threatening. Eyewitnesses are asked to contact the Riverhead Police Department.
