Patch reported recently that a tragic motor vehicle accident on the New England Thruway early in the morning of Monday, March 8, 2021 led to the death of a pedestrian after being struck by a delivery vehicle.
According to a news release issued by the New York State Police, the incident took place between 5:30 a.m. and 5:45 a.m. Eastern Standard Time on Monday, March 8, 2021 just before Exit 14 (Hutchinson River Parkway) of the New England Thruway, as Interstate 95 is known in that area, The victim, for reasons unknown and still under investigation, was on foot in the busy traffic lanes of the interstate, off-limits to pedestrian traffic, when they were struck by a delivery vehicle in the southbound lanes.

Emergency workers were forced to shut down several southbound lanes during the incident, forcing traffic to almost a standstill during the peak hours of the morning commute and causing massive congestion for people commuting into New York City from northeastern suburbs in New York and Connecticut. The accident was cleared and all lanes were returned to normal by 10:00 a.m. EST. Police were unable to determine the reason why the pedestrian was on foot in the busy roadway.
