The Astoria / Long Island City Patch reported recently that a tragic e-bicycle accident at a crosswalk in the Astoria neighborhood of Queens on the evening of Friday, May 28, 2021 led to the death of a local woman.
According to officials with the New York City Police Department, the incident occurred in Astoria, a neighborhood in the New York City borough of Queens, between 8:35 p.m. and 8:40 p.m. Eastern Standard Time (EST) on the evening of Friday, May 28, 2021. A local woman, 54 years of age, was walking across a marked crosswalk at the intersection of 21st Avenue and 31st Street as an e-bicycle ridden by a man 26 years of age approached.
The woman was struck by the e-bicycle, knocking her to the ground. She hit her head on the pavement and was taken to a local hospital in critical condition, eventually succumbing to the wounds she sustained on Saturday.

The bicyclist remained at the scene and was cooperative with investigators; no arrests or charges have been made at this time. At least ten other pedestrians have been injured at the intersection of 21st Avenue and 31st Street since 2021, according to recent data from the city.
