A woman from New York who was visiting family in Montclair, NJ, was hit by a car and killed. The Montclair Local has the story.
The victim, an elderly lady, was walking her dog at Wendover Road and Valley Road when she was struck by the car. No charges have been filed yet against the driver, but police are investigating. The small town mentioned her death at the township council meeting.
“As many of you might have heard of the tragic car accident that occurred this past Friday afternoon on the corner of Wendover Road and Valley Road, where a woman was tragically killed. Her name is Mrs. Marie Dolores Ascenso,” Second Ward Councilwoman Robin Schlager said. “It was really tragic, and my heart goes out to the Hoerner family as they grieve during this terrible time.”
A small memorial has been set up at the spot where she died. This is the third pedestrian fatality in four years in the town.

This is a sobering reminder to all drivers to watch out for pedestrians. We may relax our driving a bit in small towns because there’s less distraction, but accidents can still happen. Please take the time to slow down and watch for pedestrians before entering an intersection. You never know if a dog might dart out in front, followed quickly by its owner.
