WETM Channel 18 NBC News / MyTwinTiers.com reported that a New York State Police Trooper was recently injured in a motor vehicle accident on Tuesday, November 3, while pursuing a suspect on Interstate 86 near the town of Sevona, New York.
The incident began around 3:30 p.m., when state police responded to a domestic incident that allegedly occurred in a moving motor vehicle in Sevona. Troopers and other first responders interviewed a woman who stated she was forced out of her vehicle by a man who was intoxicated and using intoxicants at the time. Police searched for and located the vehicle, which was unattended, only to have the driver emerge from a residence nearby and flee on foot.

State troopers began setting up a perimeter and searching for the suspect; during this, a state trooper was headed west on I-86 with emergency lights and sirens activated. She was struck by another westbound vehicle that attempted to change lanes and ran into her. The trooper was treated for a head injury at Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, PA; the other driver was uninjured during the incident.
Fortunately, despite the trooper’s accident, other troopers were able to take the suspect into custody.
