It’s been almost a year since the October 2018 limousine crash in Schoharie that claimed the lives of 20 people. Since that crash became one of the deadliest transportation accidents in recent history, both civil lawsuits and criminal charges have been filed. The owner of Prestige Limousine, Nauman Hussein is facing 20 counts of negligent homicide and other criminal charges. The family members of the passengers and pedestrians killed in the accident are suing the limousine company, the driver’s estate, and even the company that performed the inspection of the limousine prior to the accident.

WIVB reports that Mavis Tire, the company that performed the inspection, is now accused of falsifying documents and business records that were related to the limo involved in the crash.
The Schoharie District Attorney’s Office released records that indicate the Saratoga Springs Mavis Tire is accused of falsifying records. The records related to the limousine involved in the fatal Schoharie crash.
A former employee at the South Broadway location of Mavis Tire told the DA’s office that he did not perform the DMV inspection. He still provided the state DMV inspection sticker needed for the inspection.
The court documents indicate that certain services were submitted on invoices for the ones that were actually performed. This was so that the store could meet sales quotas that had been established by the corporate office.
A judge approved a request by the DA’s office to release this potentially exculpatory evidence to the defense. This means that those records could be used in Hussein’s defense.
Hussein’s attorney says that this new information serves to further exonerate Hussein. He has filed a motion for dismissal based on these new materials.
