Patch reported recently that a woman has been charged with driving while intoxicated (DWI) following a motor vehicle accident in the town of Southold in the early morning hours of Monday, January 4th, an incident in which her passenger was combative and eventually was arrested on charges of his own.
According to officials from the Southold Town Police Department, the single-vehicle accident took place between 12:25 a.m. and 12:30 a.m. Eastern Standard Time (EST) on Monday morning at the intersection of Tuckers Lane and New York State Route 25 in the town of Southold. A woman from Orient, 25 years of age, was arrested on charges of operating a motor vehicle with a blood alcohol content of .08 of 1 percent, first offense; DWI, first offense; driving without a license; and leaving the scene of an accident with property damage. She was taken to Southold Police’s headquarters facility and held for arraignment.

During the incident, a man from Greenport Villa, 25 years of age, who was a passenger in the woman’s car interfered with the investigation repeatedly and spit in an officer’s face. The passenger resisted arrest and was subdued by officers. He also faces charges of second-degree harassment; obstructing governmental administration; and resisting arrest. He was released on an appearance ticket and faces a court date in the future.
