Yahoo! News reported Sunday on a boat mishap in the waters near Southampton that led to the tragic death of a teenage girl, propelling the investigation into what happened during the deadly incident.
A Rigid Hull Inflatable Boat (known as a RIB) carrying twelve passengers apparently collided with a buoy between Hythe Pier and Netley Abbey, shortly after 10:00 a.m. on Saturday morning. All of the passengers were rushed to local hospitals, but sadly, a fifteen-year-old girl was pronounced dead at the hospital from the incident. Several other passengers were seriously injured.

One of the investigators issued the following appeal: “This was a tragic incident, and our thoughts remain with the young girl’s family at this difficult time. We are now building a picture of what happened on the water that day, and the circumstances leading up to this collision. It is important that we gather as much visual evidence as we can, as well as accounts from any witnesses. We know that there was a ferry heading towards East Cowes, Isle of Wight, which left Southampton at 10:00 a.m. Were you on this ferry, and did you see or record any of this incident? Equally, were you out on the water on Saturday the 22nd of August between 9:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m., in Southampton Water between Netley Abbey and Hythe Pier?”
The incident is being investigated by Hampshire Police, the Coast Guard, and the Marine Accident Investigation Branch. Details of how the accident transpired are scarce, and investigators are asking anyone who might have witnessed the accident to contact them, especially if they have photos or video footage.
