On Sachem Town Square reported recently that a motor vehicle accident involving three vehicles in Selden is being investigated by the Suffolk County Police Department sixth squad after three vehicles collided in an incident that killed a Riverhead man.

The incident occurred at the intersection of Route 25 and N. Bicycle Path in Selden, New York on Long Island, between 11:20 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. eastern standard time (EST) on Monday, December 7. A Riverhead man, 75 years of age, was driving west on New York State Route 25 when his 2019 Chevrolet van jumped the curb at N. Bicycle path as he tried to enter the parking lot of a nearby Walgreens pharmacy. The Chevy van struck a 1997 Dodge pickup truck and then an unspecified parked vehicle, according to officials from the Suffolk County Police Department.
Investigators believe that Swanson may have suffered a medical event while driving. He was transported by emergency medical transport to Stony Brook University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead from injuries sustained in the accident.
The two occupants of the 1997 Dodge pickup were not injured. The Dodge and Chevy were both impounded for safety checks per New York state law enforcement policy.
