Patch reported recently that New York State Police troopers are investigating a hit-and-run accident in Ulster County on Saturday afternoon involving a motor vehicle and a pedestrian that led to severe injuries for the pedestrian.

According to officials from the New York State Police, troopers were dispatched from the Ellenville Barracks to the Whitfield Avenue area of Accord between 2:15 p.m. and 2:25 p.m. Eastern Standard Time (EST) in response to reports of a hit-and-run accident that involved a car and a pedestrian. They found a man lying on the ground a little less than ten feet off the western shoulder of the roadway. The victim was later identified as an Accord man, 62 years of age. He had suffered from leg and head injuries and was transported by medical helicopter to Westchester Medical Center.
The initial investigation indicated that the man had been walking with his wife when a gray sedan came hurtling southbound down Whitfield Road and struck him, continuing south without stopping.
The investigation is active and ongoing and state police are asking anyone who was in the area at the time and may have witnessed the accident or who saw the vehicle before or after the accident to call the state police’s Ellenville Barracks at 845-626-2800.
