Lohud reported recently that a Spring Valley woman was killed in a fatal motor vehicle accident along Interstate 87 in Chestnut Ridge early Friday morning when she rear-ended a tractor-trailer stopped for another disabled vehicle.
According to representatives from the New York State Police, the incident occurred around 2:30 a.m. Eastern Standard Time (EST) along the southbound lanes of I-87 near Chestnut Ridge, A woman from Spring Valley, 26 years of age, was declared dead at the scene of the accident, while her passenger, a man from Spring Valley, 25 years of age, was medically transported to Westchester Medical Center in serious but stable condition.

The incident occurred when a Pennsylvania man parked his 2018 Freightliner tractor-trailer behind a disabled vehicle and set out proper hazard markings behind the vehicle to safeguard the occupants, in the right lane of I-87 near mile marker 24.4. The two victims were in a 2015 Mercedes-Benz that failed to heed these markings and slammed into the back of the truck while the tow truck that had responded to the first wreck loaded the disabled vehicle.
The crash remains under investigation by the New York State Police. The truck driver, disabled vehicle occupants, and tow truck driver were uninjured in the incident.
