Several New York City-area residents were injured and at least one was killed as the tattered remnants of Tropical Storm Isaias passed overhead Tuesday, according to reporting from the Jackson Heights Post.
A man in his sixties was sitting in his parked car at the corner of Smedley Street and 84th Avenue in Briarwood at 2:10pm when a massive tree came down, impacting his white sedan. He was pronounced dead at the scene; his identity was withheld pending notification of next of kin and no other details were released by police spokespeople.

Around the same time, a Brooklyn woman was walking near 340 Dumont Avenue, outside the Tilden Houses in Brownsville, when a tree fell and struck her in the head. She was critically injured according to New York City Police Department reporting, and is reportedly unlikely to survive from her injuries.
Tropical Storm Isaias battered coastal areas of New York state Tuesday, toppling trees, suspending above-ground MTA subway service in Queens, Brooklyn, and the Bronx due to fallen debris, and causing widespread power outages.
