According to officials with the Nassau County Police Department, the incident took place between 6:10 a.m. and 6:25 a.m. Eastern Standard Time (EST) along Roslyn Road in Mineola, a town on Long Island. A Mineola man, 70 years of age, was driving down Roslyn Road at the intersection of Roslyn Road and Raff Avenue, while the victim, a man 64 years of age who is known as the father of legendary musician Nicki Minaj, was walking in the roadway due to the sidewalks being rendered impassable by accumulated snow and ice. The driver allegedly struck the victim, observed him to be deceased, and then drove away, leaving the man dead in the roadway, after which he hid the car in a detached garage to avoid detection.
The man was arrested and charged with leaving the scene of an accident with a fatality and tampering with evidence in the crash and now faces a $150,000,000 civil lawsuit in Nassau Supreme Court over his alleged role in the accident.
