Binghamton Homepage reported recently that a major accident involving a mobile home transport carrier and an 18-wheel tractor trailer marked as a transport for Panera Bread occurred on the morning of Wednesday, March 24, 2021 along Interstate 86 in the town of Lowman, NY.
According to officials with the New York State Police and the New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT), the accident took place on Wednesday along Interstate 86 near mile marker 57, in the area of the town of Lowman, just north of the border between New York and Pennsylvania around 40 miles west of Binghamton. A mobile home transport suffered some sort of mishap that caused it to fall sideways, blocking both eastbound lanes. Footage from the scene showed that a Panera Bread truck had crashed into the median, likely as a result of attempting to avoid colliding with the mobile home transport.

The incident closed both eastbound lanes of I-86, causing a traffic backup for miles. New York State Police troopers were rerouting traffic at the Newtown Battlefield exit. NYSP troopers as well as officials with NYSDOT responded to the scene of the accident; they stated the cause of the accident is not known at this time but is currently under investigation.
