The Nassau Daily Voice reported recently that a high-speed chase along the Long Island Expressway led to the arrest of a Central Islip man on the morning of Thursday, February 11.
According to a news release issued by the Suffolk County Police Department as well as officials from the New York State Police, the incident began between 7:45 a.m. and 8:00 a.m. Eastern Standard Time (EST) on February 11, 2021 along the Long Island Expressway in the Dix Hills area. A Central Islip man, 24 years of age, was driving a 2017 Ford Mustang westbound in the HOV lane when a Suffolk County Police Department officer attempted a routine traffic stop. Instead of stopping, the man sped away, continuing westbound at a high rate of speed while weaving in and out of traffic.

The driver allegedly attempted to hit an officer deploying tire deflating devices on the roadway near exit 51 but the officer avoided being hit. Members of the Suffolk County Police Department Third Precinct Gang Unit identified him and tracked him down, arresting him around midnight in Central Islip. He was charged with reckless endangerment and unlawful fleeing of a police officer in a stolen vehicle.
