QNS.com reported recently that a local and renowned high school teacher was killed in a wreck on the Sunken Meadow Parkway on Long Island on Friday, November 20.
According to officials from the Suffolk County Police Department, the incident occurred around 7:30 p.m. along the Sunken Meadow Parkway on Long Island, north of Exit SM3 in Smithtown. An off-duty firefighter from Babylon, 38 years of age, was driving a 2008 Chevrolet Colorado pickup truck southbound, the wrong way, in the northbound lanes of the Sunken Meadow Parkway when his vehicle collided with the high school teacher’s motor vehicle, a 2007 Mazda CX7 SUV.

First responders reportedly found the victim dead at the scene of the accident, according to officials with the New York State Police. The pickup truck driver was transported to Southside Hospital with serious injuries, and according to an official from the New York City Fire Department, he is still hospitalized.
The victim, a resident of Kings Park,. was a social studies teacher at Benjamin Cardozo High School in Bayside for 17 years and had been scheduled to be married next summer in a ceremony that had been postponed by the COVID-19 pandemic.
No charges have been filed and the cause of the collision is under investigation. The state police ask that anyone with information call 631-756-3300.
