Four cars were burned in a crash that happened last night on the Bruckner Expressway in the Bronx. The New York Post reported on the crash.
Police say that a speeding vehicle was heading south on the expressway and hit a utility pole just before midnight. The collision launched the car over the median and into traffic, hitting three other vehicles and catching fire.
All four vehicles were damaged by the fire. One was completely consumed by the flames. By the time the fires were put out, two people were dead and five others were transferred to local hospitals.
Police believe that the responsible vehicle was speeding at the time of the crash. The article does not say which car had the fatalities.
Car fires in crashes are uncommon, but they do happen. When they start, it’s vital to get out of the car as soon as you can. The flames can spread quickly and trap you in you vehicle. If this happens, only luck will get you out before you burn to death.
Investigating exactly what happened will take time, but the police and the insurance companies will focus on the car that flew over the median. We hope that the injured parties recovered and that the victims are able to receive compensation for their medical needs and car repairs.
