A Roof Collapse Causes Serious Injuries To Construction Workers

Construction accidents are common according to the Occupational Health and Safety Administration and the Bureau of Labor Statistics. There are roughly 15,000 construction site accidents each year according to the BLS. On average, over 1,000 people die each year in construction accidents.

While falls make up a significant majority of accidents that occur on construction sites, prohibited or inappropriate contact with equipment is also a common cause. The majority of injuries involve the workers’ spines, backs, and torsos. Workers between the ages of 25 and 34 are the most likely to be injured on a worksite.

7 News reports that three people have been hurt at a construction accident in Black River.

The incident occurred at about 1:38 p.m. at Black River Electrical Mechanical. Construction workers were completing a milestone at the time of the accident.

Three construction workers were injured when the roof of a building that was under construction collapsed for unknown reasons.

One of the workers required being airlifted to University Hospital in Syracuse due to the seriousness of his injuries. The two other workers suffered from minor injuries and were taken by ambulance to Watertown’s Samaritan Medical Center.

A neighbor stated that the high winds and turbulent weather that the area was experiencing may have played a role in the collapse.

According to other people who live within the area, the roof was nearly finished at the time of the collapse. The building was intended to store coal. No further information about the future plans for the building has been released.
