In certain parts of New York, you can still find people who ride in a horse and buggy. They have the same rights to the road as other vehicles, but we must take extra care when we drive by them.
News 10 reports that a woman has died and another person has been injured in a crash in Oswego County on Sunday, June 6, 2021.
Investigators with the New York State Police are looking into the fatal crash involving a 2017 Dodge Ram pickup truck and a horse-drawn vehicle.
The incident happened along County Route 41 near Pittstown when the pickup truck driver tailgating the slower vehicle rear-ended the buggy. Both occupants of the Amish buggy were ejected from the cart during impact.
Emergency crews responded to the scene and declared the 22-year-old woman who had been driving the buggy dead at the scene of the crash.
A 21-year-old male passenger was also injured in the crash. He was taken to Upstate University Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
After performing tests at the scene, police investigators determined that either drugs or alcohol did not impair the pickup truck driver at the time.
No charges are expected to be filed.
