Firefighters used one of their newest tools, a drone equipped with thermal imaging devices, to provide situational awareness, aid in the search for any other victims, and shine a light on the area as they worked to retrieve the couple from the vehicle due to the awkward location with very limited lighting.
Both victims were taken to a local hospital and are expected to make a full recovery, according to spokespeople from the Village of Pelham Fire Department. Those spokespeople praised the teamwork of the Pelham Police and Fire responders and bystanders who jumped in to assist responders by holding parts of the car clear and enabling rescuers to reach the wounded victims.
