The incident shut down the southbound lanes of the highway and also led to major delays in the northbound lanes. The incident led NYPD officers to announce ‘if you don’t need to be out, please stay home’ due to reports of cars stuck, spinning tires, many accidents, and the time it takes for the New York City Sanitation Department to finish plowing the roads.
“Every New Yorker who wants tomorrow to go smoothly, stay off the roads tonight, stay off the roads in the morning, let these guts do their job and help them be safe,” the NYC Mayor said in a statement.
