The Genesee Sun reported recently that a commercial motor vehicle accident on the New York State Thruway on the morning of Tuesday, December 1 had fatal consequences for an out of state driver.
The incident occurred around 10:30 a.m. on the morning of Tuesday, Dec. 1 near Exit 43 in the westbound lanes of the New York State Thruway, near the town of Manchester in Ontario County, according to officials from the New York State Police. A 2016 Freightliner tractor driving without a trailer was eastbound on the thruway and, for unknown reasons still under investigation, drifted through the center median of the highway and into the westbound travel lanes. The truck then drove the wrong way onto the on-ramp of the westbound side for Exit 43, into an adjacent grassy area, and finally struck a tree directly head-on. No other vehicles were involved in the incident.

The driver, a man 34 years of age from out of New York State, was trapped in the vehicle and declared dead at the scene of the accident by first responders. His identity has not yet been released, nor have the results of the investigation. New York State Police troopers were assisted at the scene by Manchester Fire, Shortsville Ambulance, Finger Lakes Ambulance, Farmington Service, and the NYS Thruway Authority.
