Long Island Woman Crashes Car In Alleged DUI With Child In Car
The Daily Voice reported yesterday that a Long Island woman was allegedly driving drunk, with her toddler in the car, when she caused a car accident in Holtsville Tuesday.
The accident occurred around 11:10 pm on Tuesday night in Holtsville, a town in Suffolk County. According to spokespeople from the Suffolk County Police, the suspect was driving a 2012 Jeep Liberty westbound on Barretts Avenue, with her nine-month-old son in the vehicle, when she tried to turn right onto Waverly Avenue northbound and crashed into a 2020 Chevy Silverado in the southbound lanes of Waverly waiting at the red light.
Neither the suspect or her son were injured, but the driver of the Silverado, a 25-year-old Holbrook man, was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital for minor injuries, although none were life-threatening.
The woman was charged with driving while intoxicated, aggravated driving while intoxicated with a child passenger fifteen years old or younger (also known as Leandra’s Law), endangering the welfare of a child, and aggravated unlicensed operation of a vehicle. She was held overnight at a nearby precinct for arraignment Wednesday at First District Court in Central Islip. A family member came to the precinct to take custody of her infant child.
