The Star Gazette reported recently that multiple arrests were made by the Chemung County Sheriff’s Office in connection with a tragic and fatal motor vehicle accident that occurred along County Route 60 in Chemung on Friday, April 16, 2021.
According to a news release issued by officials from the Chemung County Sheriff’s Office, the incident took place on Friday, April 16, 2021 in the Town of Chemung, southeast of Elmira near the Pennsylvania state line. A man from Chemung, 38 years of age, was struck by a vehicle that then fled the scene of the collision. He was medically transported to the Robert Packer Hospital by Greater Valley Ambulance, where he was pronounced dead of injuries sustained in the accident.

The investigation led Sheriff’s Office investigators to an address on River Road in Chemung. A man from Chemung, 20 years of age, was taken into custody after investigators determined he was operating a 2007 Dodge Caliber moving westbound on County Route 60 when it struck the victim, and also allegedly determined he fled the scene of the accident. The man was charged with leaving the scene of a fatal motor vehicle accident, a Class D felony.
Two others were arrested in connection with the investigation. The Chemung County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the New York State Police and the Athens Township, Pennsylvania, Police Department.
