The New York Daily News reported on a tragic accident in the Columbus Circle area of New York City in which an 82-year-old woman was hospitalized in critical condition after an encounter with a Revel scooter.
The victim was in the crosswalk at the intersection of West 60th Street and Broadway on Tuesday, September 29, at 8:00 a.m. when a 23-year-old man riding one of the popular rental scooters collided with her. Both the man and the elderly woman were injured; the man stayed at the scene and attempted to render aid according to a witness, but they were both in intense pain.
The victim was rushed to Mount Sinai hospital in critical condition, after over fifty cops showed up to render aid.

While no charges were filed against the rider of the Revel rental scooter, this is but the latest in a series of accidents that have bedeviled the scooter company this summer. Three people died this summer in crashes, leading to a temporary shutdown in late July and revamped safety measures for scooter riders. While the scooters are limited to 30 miles per hour and barred from city highways, bridges, or tunnels, there are serious concerns about the safety of the rental moped organization.
