CBS Channel 2 / WLNY Channel 10 / Channel 55 CBS Local New York News reported recently that police are investigating what was described as an unusual incident along the Long Island Expressway on Tuesday, March 30, 2021 in which a piece of debris fell onto the expressway in the New York City borough of Queens.

According to officials with the New York State Department of Transportation, the incident took place between 9:10 a.m. and 9:20 a.m. Eastern Standard Time (EST) on Tuesday, March 30, 2021 along the Long Island Expressway, near Springfield Boulevard and 220th Street in the borough of Queens. A piece of debris fell onto a van driving along the expressway, with no explanation or apparent cause. Traffic came to a standstill as emergency crews arrived on-scene to remove the van and the debris from the roadway and ensure the road was safe for travel by other vehicles.
No information was released to the press as to whether anyone was injured in the incident, what the debris was or where it came from, or any other information. The New York State Department of Transportation is investigating the incident and further information is hoped for in the near future.
