The New York Post reported recently that a young boy just four years of age is in critical condition after having been struck by a driver Sunday night in the Prospect Park area of Brooklyn.
According to officials from the New York City Police Department, the four-year-old child and his father were waiting for the traffic signal to change at the intersection of Ocean Avenue and Parkside Avenue in Prospect Lefferts Gardens between 10:20 p.m. and 10:40 p.m. Eastern Standard Time (EST) when the little boy ran ahead out into the street and was struck by a Toyota RAV4 compact sport-utility vehicle driven by a local man sixty years of age.

The young child was medically transported to Kings County Hospital along with his father, a man 39 years of age, who suffered minor injuries not believed to be life-threatening in the accident. The boy has since been downgraded to serious condition and transferred to Bellevue Hospital, according to city officials familiar with the case. The driver of the Toyota RAV4 SUV was not arrested or ticketed and is not facing charges for the incident, as he was obeying all traffic laws and customary precautions while driving when he hit the child.
