NY 1 Spectrum News reported recently that the New York City Police Department is searching for an alleged car thief who stole a BMW sedan from a Manhattan parking garage earlier this week, and then crashed the car a few blocks away while trying to make a clean getaway.
According to officials from the New York City Police Department, the incident began early in the morning on Thursday, February 18, 2021 along East 34th Street in the Kips Bay neighborhood of Manhattan. Surveillance video captured a young man entering a parking garage while riding a scooter. He entered a BMW sedan and drove off using keys that were left inside the vehicle.

Police spokespeople stated that the driver then allegedly crashed into the metal gate at the exit of the parking garage while egressing the structure. He then allegedly caused a multi-vehicle accident at the intersection of 25th Street and Second Avenue, after which he fled the scene on foot. The BMW sedan was recovered by police units at the accident site.
