NBC Channel 4 News New York reported recently that a tragic motor vehicle accident on Long Island caused the death of a toddler on the morning of Sunday, May 9, 2021.
According to a news release issued by officials with the Suffolk County Police Department, the incident took place between 10:25 a.m. and 10:35 a.m. Eastern Standard Time (EST) on Sunday, May 9, 2021 in Shirley, a hamlet along the southern shore of Long Island in Suffolk County, New York, just east of Bellport Bay. A young boy, three years of age, was standing on a residential street in Shirley when he was struck by a pickup truck that was backing out of a driveway along the street.

The driver and passenger of the pickup administered CPR and other first aid and called 911 immediately. The boy was rushed by ambulance to Long Island Community Hospital and then transferred to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment of critical injuries but ultimately succumbed to the injuries sustained in the accident.
Suffolk County Police have not filed any charges in association with the incident, but did impound the truck for a safety check. The investigation is active and ongoing and eyewitnesses are asked to contact the police with any relevant information.
