A Lyft driver in New York was allegedly attacked by his passenger then arrested afterward by police. Now he’s gone to the media to complain after losing his job due to the incident, according to NBC New York.
Several private businesses require a mask in order to be served, but it has also been a point of controversy with many people. In a similar vein, the driver told a passenger he was picking up at the airport that he would not give her a ride if she did not wear a mask.
Possibly in retaliation, the passenger threw a beverage on the backseat and left the car. As he was cleaning it up, the woman came back and attacked the man, spitting in his face and pushing her phone up close to him. He admits that while he was pushing her away, he touched her face.
After calling the police, they arrested him. To add insult to injury, the Taxi and Limousine Commission suspended his license. Lyft also suspended his account. Now, he is worried about how he will care for his family. TLC is investigating the matter and says that the passenger was also arrested.

The driver had taken protections to keep his family and passengers safe from COVID-19. However, this attack has robbed him of his livelihood. Assuming the news report is correct, he may have a strong case for lost wages due to this passenger’s actions. We hope that he is able to provide for his family while he waits for his court date.
