Construction accident fatalities doubled and injuries surged 17 percent in 2018 in New York, according to the New York City Department of Buildings Additionally, eight people were killed in construction related accidents in the first seven months of the 2018. This is twice as many for the same time frame in 2017. This increase in fatalities has been attributed to the rise in building construction in New York.
According to the NYDoB in July of 2018, 469 people were injured in 457 accidents while at work. Falling debris and falling from a high up place are two common causes of injury or death on construction sites. A law passed in 2017 requires the NYDoB to post all construction related fatalities online.
