The New York Daily News reported recently that a driver has been charged with multiple serious felony charges for allegedly striking and critically injuring a bicycle-riding pizza delivery worker on the Lower East Side of Manhattan on Monday, February 8.

According to officials with the New York City Police Department, the incident took place on Monday, February 8, 2021 between 6:05 p.m. and 6:15 p.m. Eastern Standard Time (EST) near the intersection of Delancey Street and Columbia Street, underneath the approach ramp to the Williamsburg Bridge that connects Manhattan Island and . The driver was westbound on Delancey Street in a gray Honda sedan when he struck the pizza delivery bicyclist, who had been headed south on Columbia Street. The impact was forceful enough to crater the windshield of the Honda and completely destroy its front grille area, while severely injuring the bicyclist, believed to be in his forties. The bicyclist was rushed to Bellevue Hospital in critical condition and his identity has not been released.
The driver, a man 22 years of age, made his first appearance Tuesday in Manhattan Criminal Court, where he was charged with assault, leaving the scene of an accident, and reckless endangerment for his role in the crash.
