New York has several DWI laws, covering everything from operating a snowmobile while impaired to a lesser charge of driving a vehicle while ability impaired. In New York, one of the more serious charges a driver can face is aggravated DWI. In New York, an aggravated DWI means that the driver had a blood-alcohol content of at least 0.18%. It is a misdemeanor charge that can have a penalty of three years on probation, a one-year revocation of the driver’s license, mandatory installation of an ignition interlock device, and jail time of up to one year. These penalties are on top of any other penalties the driver may face, such as if there are injuries or deaths in an accident.
