WSYR ABC Channel 9 News reported recently that a Syracuse man was arrested for Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) after a single-vehicle accident Sunday in the New York town of Salina.
According to officials from the New York State Police, the incident occurred between 1:25 a.m. and 1:35 a.m. Eastern Standard Time (EST) along Interstate 90 in the town of Salina, a suburb of the upstate NY city of Syracuse. The motor vehicle accident, involving one car, occurred when a 2013 Dodge Avenger drove off the roadway and hit a snow embankment. Responding troopers found that the driver, a man 38 years of age, was uninjured and responding troopers found him to be intoxicated based on field sobriety tests conducted at the accident scene.
The driver was taken into custody and transported to the State Police facility in Syracuse, where testing found him to have a blood-alcohol content of 0.22%, almost three times the legal limit. He was charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated, a misdemeanor which is unclassified.
He was turned over to a sober third-party individual and released. He was given an appearance ticket for the court of the Town of Salina on Wednesday, February 17, 2021 at 5:00 p.m. Eastern Standard Time (EST.)
