Court documents indicate that 23-year-old Tyler Glover had been driving an unregistered and uninsured Nissan Sentra at approximately 65 miles per hour heading eastbound on Interstate 95 when one of its wheels came off and struck the windshield of the BMW that was traveling westbound on the highway.
Investigators say that the flying tire narrowly missed injuring the BMW’s driver and two passengers who were in the car at the time of the accident. The vehicle was severely damaged and undrivable.
The couple’s disabled car was taken to a BMW dealership in Nashua, New Hampshire. From there, the plaintiffs had to take a taxi to Boston to catch a flight that would take them home to New York.
In the case, attorneys for the plaintiff were seeking $5,000 in lost wages and expenses that their insurance would not cover. The judge questioned the amount since Glover had not been charged with any offenses linked to any responsibility for the accident.
Glover told the court that before purchasing the Nissan, he had taken the car to a mechanic who allegedly inspected it and said to him that it was roadworthy.
An amount of $1,000 in restitution was arrived at as being an amount that Glover could pay to the New York couple within one year.
