According to officials from the Suffolk County Police Department, the accident occurred over the weekend along Nicholls Road in the Centereach area of Suffolk County. A young man from Ronkonkoma, 25 years of age, was driving a gray 2011 Kia sedan north on Nicholls Road when he suffered from an unspecified and undisclosed “medical event” that caused him to lose control of his vehicle. His Kia careened into the intersection of Nicholls Road and Middle Country Road and hit a black 2016 Nissan sport-utility vehicle square on the driver’s side door. The driver of the Nissan SUV, a Holbrook man 29 years of age, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.
The chain-reaction accident also involved a 2018 Mercedes, a 2015 Audi and a 2000 Jeep, according to accident reports filed by the Suffolk County Police Department. No other injuries were reported in the incident despite extensive damage to all the vehicles involved.
The driver of the Kia was taken to the hospital for evaluation but was then charged with aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle by the Suffolk County Police Department.
