John Hopkins Hospital experts have found that medical errors are the third leading cause of fatalities in the United States, right behind heart disease and cancer. They also concluded that more than 250,000 deaths annually are due to medical mistakes.
While it is always advisable to obtain medical treatment whenever it is needed, mistakes that may leave you in a worse condition can happen. There are a variety of factors in what causes medical malpractice, such as staff miscommunication, defective equipment, misdiagnosis, fatigue or even negligence. Whatever the case may be, the effects can be devastating and long lasting or possibly even permanent.
