The Stamford Advocate reported recently that an elderly New York man was killed near Southbury on Christmas Eve after walking out into the traffic lanes of Interstate 84 and being struck by a motor vehicle.
According to the accident report from the New York State Police, the victim, a man from Holmes, New York 85 years of age, was driving a 2014 Subaru Impreza west on I-84 just before Exit 16 when for unknown reasons still under investigation, he veered off the roadway and into the grassy center median area, then came to a halt. The victim then exited his vehicle and walked out into the travel lanes of the highway where he was struck by a Toyota Camry sedan driven by a woman from West Hartford, 60 years of age.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. Southbury Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene of the motor vehicle accident to assist with the response effort.
