Car Accidents Archives
Even when you take all reasonable precautions and have ideal driving conditions, it is impossible to predict when an unfortunate car accident may occur. Vehicle traffic collisions are the leading cause of injury related fatalities in New York State. During the time from 2012 to 2014 there was a yearly average of 12,093 hospitalizations 1,098 deaths, and 136,913 emergency department consultations because of car crash injuries in New York State. While no one wants to be one of these statistics, car accidents do happen and they can have lasting detrimental effects.
Catastrophic situations out on New York roadways have many factors, but things that generally increase the risk of an accident include speed, follow someone too closely, drive distracted by some form of technology or drive while fatigued or impaired. Additionally, environmental conditions such as rain, snow or decreased visibility can increase the chances of these unfortunate and unexpected events. If you must drive in snow or other less safe weather conditions, it is a best practice to ensure your car is equipped with appropriate tires and other safety equipment.
