A Pedestrian Dies In An Accident Involving A Tractor-Trailor

Despite Mayor Bill de Blasio’s Vision Zero making the promise to eliminate traffic fatalities, bicyclist and pedestrian deaths were up in 2019. In 2019, bicyclist deaths more than doubled over the numbers in 2018. So far, it does not seem as though the year 2020 is off to a better start. Because of the changes targeting cars, some people argue that bicyclists and pedestrians are at fault as they dart into traffic and fail to follow traffic laws. Last year, however, police reports found less than 5% of pedestrians and bicyclists at fault in accidents. Driver inattention or distraction is one of the main causes of several pedestrian accidents.

The Times Telegram reports that a pedestrian has died following a crash in Schuyler Lake. Law enforcement officers are looking for more information about the accident.

The incident occurred on Wednesday afternoon at about 1:44 p.m. on County Road 22 in Schuyler Lake.

State police along with the Otsego County Sheriff’s Department were both dispatched to the scene. 47-year-old Clarence G. Travis was struck by a tractor-trailer with a dump trailer attached.

The tractor-trailer was traveling east when it struck Travis. Travis was transported to a hospital in Utica, where he succumbed to his injuries. Troopers say that an initial investigation revealed that Travis stepped into the path of the tractor-trailer.

The driver of the tractor-trailer has not been charged, but the accident is still under investigation.
