Friedman & Simon L.L.P., a personal injury attorney law firm in Jericho, N.Y., has awarded its 2020 Friedman & Simon L.L.P. Academic Scholarship to Tyler McDonough, 21, an industrial engineering major Purdue University in West Lafayette, IN.
Scholarship entrants were given the choice of three prompts to respond to for the entry application, and Mr. McDonough chose this question: “How will your studies contribute to your future career aspirations?”
Mr. McDonough, a native of Evansville, IN, is on track to graduate in Spring 2022. He wrote passionately about studying engineering in order to better the world and help people.
He has already participated in engineering projects that are of great public service. With the Purdue chapter of Engineers Without Borders, he helped provide clean drinking water to the people of Colquechaca, Bolivia.
As the construction chair for the Purdue chapter of Habitat for Humanity, he pivoted to assigning volunteers to help local animal shelters after the COVID-19 shutdown stopped home construction.
Mr. McDonough’s community spirit echoes the commitment that firm founders Edward Friedman and Roger Simon make to their clients every day. For more than 25 years, they have worked tirelessly to help the people of New York state, providing legal assistance to those who have been needlessly injured or suffered damages due to someone else’s negligence.
This $1,500 scholarship is another way to commit to bettering the world. It’s open to any college or graduate student who has a 3.0 GPA or higher.
Mr. Friedman and Mr. Simon are particularly committed to giving a helping hand to students like Mr. McDonough, who echoed this firm’s passion with the opening line of his essay: “My primary reason for choosing an engineering degree at Purdue University is that I want to help people.”’
