Every year, one of the leading causes of teen deaths is car accidents and often occur due to inexperience. Those involved in these accidents usually have their licenses for less than three years. Paired together, speeding and inexperience can lead to tragic outcomes including serious injury and death. Distracted driving is also becoming a huge factor. This doesn’t necessarily mean cell phones. Many cases of distracted driving occur when a teen has another teen or group of teens in the car with them.
NBC New York reports on a fatal crash where an 18-year-old driver died, and two other teens were critically injured.
18-year-old Aaron Jagroop was traveling east on Southern State Parkway in Babylon in a Toyota Sienna. He collided with a Toyota Camry and lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle flew off the roadway and slammed into a tree.
Jagroop was rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Jagroop had three passengers in the vehicle at the time of the crash. They were identified only as a 16-year-old girl from South Ozone Park, a 15-year-old male from Jamaica, Queens, and a 19-year-old boy who was also from South Ozone Park.
The 16-year-old girl and 15-year old male both suffered from serious injuries and were listed in critical condition. The 19-year-old was treated for non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the Camry was not injured.
