Southampton Athletic Director Struck By Work Van

The East Hampton Star reports that a tragic early morning accident on Wednesday left a former staff member at the Bridgehampton School in serious condition from being struck by a motor vehicle.

Around 7:00 a.m. on Wednesday morning, the 61-year-old retired athletic director of the Bridgehampton School was jogging in the neighborhood of Water Mill, according to reports from Southampton Town Police Department, when she was struck by a work van. The van stopped and was present when police arrived, and she was airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital with serious injuries.

Southampton Town Police Detectives are investigating what caused the accident, but have not updated the press as of yet on her condition.

The victim spent 32 years as an educator at The Bridgehampton School and was known for her work revamping their athletic program and championing athletics and fitness at the school. She advocated an active and healthy lifestyle for students since joining the faculty in 1982 and tirelessly worked to improve athletic opportunities there.

She was inducted into the Bridgehampton School’s Hall of Fame in 2018, was the teacher of the year twice at the school, and has also been Section XI athletic director of the year and a past president of Section XI, the governing body of high school sports in Suffolk County.
