One Girl Dead, Another Injured In ATV Crash

For those who love the outdoors, operate a farm or a ranch, or just simply love adventure, an ATV is almost a must-own. When used properly and safely, they can be an exhilarating way of getting around or just getting things done. However, these off-road vehicles are often used improperly, leading to accidents that cause injuries and even fatalities. In 1982, there were a reported 10,000 accidents and injuries that involved ATVs. That soared to 150,000 in 2017. A quarter of the accidents and injuries happened to young people who were under the age of 16. 80% of the injuries and fatalities involved the driver rather than the passengers of the ATV.

Syracuse.com reports that a 12-year-old girl was killed in an ATV crash while a second 12-year-old girl was critically injured.

The ATV crash occurred at about 6:31 p.m. on Sunday, May 21st, on Jones Road in the town of Litchfield.

Two 12-year-old girls were riding a 2006 Polaris Sportsman 450 ATV south on Jones Road when the ATV traveled off road, striking a utility pole.  Both girls were thrown from the vehicle.

Alivia P. Moylan was rushed to St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Utica where she was pronounced dead. Kyra R. Treen was flown to Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse in critical condition with internal injuries.
