Beginning in 2015 and over the following 31 months, MTA buses were involved in 21,823 crashes, collisions, and other mishaps. At least 2,520 people were injured in these incidents over the 31 months. At least 14 people were killed. 180 of the accidents involved school buses, including one case where a 9-year-old boy and a 54-year-old woman were taken to the hospital after the school bus they were riding in was rear-ended by an MTA bus. MTA bus drivers also do not contact the police following a crash. They contact MTA dispatch instead. MTA then sends a special team to mount their defense before the victim is even taken to a hospital.

An unidentified 51-year-old male victim was crossing the street near 59th Street and Fifth Avenue when he was struck by a bus that was initially believed to be an MTA bus. However, police and MTA officials tracked down the bus described in the witness statement, but it was not involved in the incident.
A security guard who was a witness said that the bus, which he couldn’t identify, made a right turn from 57th Street and struck the man as he crossed Fifth Avenue. The bus kept going.
Police are still trying to locate the bus and the driver.
