Under New York law, any persons involved in an accident must stop at or as near the scene as possible and exchange information with the other party. If either party contacts the police, all parties must wait for them to arrive. Leaving the scene of an accident can result in numerous fines and penalties, depending on the circumstances of the incident. If there is just property damage, fines can be between $0 and $250. If an injury is involved, the fines are subsequently higher, ranging between $250 and $5,000. An accident involving property damage where the driver leaves the scene can result in a 15-day incarceration. If personal injury is involved, it becomes a criminal offense.
The Daily Voice reports that a Nassau man has been arrested for hitting two pedestrians and leaving the scene of the crash.
27-year-old Amir Dashti was arrested by the Nassau County Police last Wednesday, August 14th. The arrest stems from a crash that Dashti allegedly was involved in on August 13th on Scudders Lane.
Detectives allege that Dashti was driving a 2014 Chevrolet Camaro eastbound on Scudders Lane when he struck two people standing in front of 150 Scudders Lane. Dashti then allegedly fled the scene.
Both victims, who were 27-year-old males, sustained head injuries and were transported to a hospital for treatment.
After an investigation, the vehicle was located at a residence on Glenwood Road in Roslyn Harbor.
Dashti is facing two charges of leaving the scene of an accident involving serious personal injury.
