New York’s Very Own Pix 11 News reported recently that a Long Island man caused multiple car accidents and then discharged a firearm at police during a pursuit on foot in a series of incidents that occurred on Saturday, March 20, 2021.
According to officials with the Suffolk County Police Department, the accident took place between 2:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. Eastern Standard Time (EST) in Suffolk County on Long Island. A Suffolk County Police Department officer tried to pull over a Nissan Maxima sedan for a traffic violation along Deer Park Avenue in North Babylon, a hamlet along the south shore of Long Island. The vehicle fled, crashing into a Hyundai SUV along Woods Avenue in the process.

The Maxima then struck a Nissan Rogue SUV on NY State Route 31 and became disabled after attempting to flee that accident scene. The driver, a man 22 years of age, abandoned the Maxima and fled on foot through the parking lot of a strip mall. He allegedly fired at least one round at the pursuing police before being cornered in a detached garage on Mohawk Drive; his handgun was recovered from a nearby pool. He is being charged with criminal possession of a weapon, reckless endangerment, and leaving the scene of an accident among other charges.
